Edison Records and rural old-time music? You may think, this could not be, but Document Records shows us, that there were a lot of old southern musicians fiddlin' off in ol' Alva's studios.
Edison, maybe more known for their pioneering in recording techniques and releasing disc from early jazz, pop and hawaiians stars like Arthur Fields, Billy Murray or Frank Ferera, had in the 1920's some of the best known old-time artists of their time under contract: Vernon Dalhart, Ernest Stoneman, Frank Luther and Carson Robison. But one of the more unknown recordings were made by the "grandpa" fiddler Jasper Bisbee, who was one of the first having the honor to record old-time music for a label in 1923 (I hope I'm not mistaken).
So this CD is a very good deal, featuring some of the more unknown recordings of a time, when "hillbilly" was cool... Worth to buy it. Page on Document Records and on Amazon.com.
