Buck Griffin dies

Buck Griffin, one of the true rockabilly heroes, died Saturday, Febuary 14. He was 85 years old.

Albert C. "Buck" Griffin was born in 1923 in Texas. In the early 1950s, Griffin met radio station and record label owner Joe Leonard, who signed him to his Lin Records. Griffin released in 1954 his first single and recorded six follow-ups, all of them were pure country. "One Day After Payday", "Bawlin' and Squalin'" and "Let's Elope Baby" (which was later recorded by Janis Martin) were just a few of his tunes there. In 1956, Griffin moved to MGM Records, where he made his rockabilly debut with "Stutterin' Papa". The next years saw him recording more classic rockabilly material.

He continued to record well into the 1960s. Griffin retired from the music in the 1970s. He will be missed by the fans of true rockabilly music. You can download an album of his works at Uncle Gil's Rockin' Archives.
