Karen Fellows on Power

Karen Fellows - Searchin' (Power PS 101), unknown year

The Power label out of Jonesboro, Arkansas, had a few single and album releases approximately in the 1960s. We have talked about this label once before on Arkansas Roots, as Power also released a 45rpm record on Little George Domerese, a country DJ from western Arkansas.

One of the singers recording for Powers was Karen Fellows, who was, judging from the voice on her record, still very young at the time of the recording. She cut a cover of the Coasters' hit "Searchin'" for Power. The original version had been released by the Coasters in 1957 and hit #3 on Billboard's Hot 100. As Power Records pressed its released at Wayne Raney's Rimrock plant, we cannot determine an exact release date.

As much as there is known about Power Records, as much is known about Karen Fellows. Nothing, sadly. Her version of "Searchin'" was used on the 2012 Collector Records CD "Slow Boogie Rockin', Volume 6", released in the Netherlands.

When I posted the song, long time ago, one comment suggested :

I was told Karen Fellows (backed here by The Pacers) was actually Gennifer Flowers who would later in life become well known as the mistress of President Bill Clinton. The Pacers had a hit with "Short Squashed Texan". I believe this record is from 1964.

I think it's credible. What do you think ?
